Volunteer Opportunities Distress Centre Crisis Line (Volunteer Crisis Responder) Distress Centre of Niagara provides a free, confidential telephone support service, utilizing highly skilled volunteers to assist anyone in need in the Niagara Region. Volunteer crisis workers listen to callers' concerns, assist callers with solving their own problems, provide information and referrals where appropriate and intervene in life threatening situations. Mental Health and Addictions Access Line (Volunteer Access Worker) The Mental Health and Addictions Access Line is the first point of access to mental health and addiction services for adult residents of Niagara. Volunteers provide immediate support and direct connection to the most appropriate service. Volunteer Personal Gains - You give comfort to people who thought no one cared enough to listen - You will help individuals who otherwise might not know where to turn to get connected with the support they need - Meet & learn from other individuals on an incredible team of volunteers - Gain new perspectives on yourself, experiences, feelings and behaviors - You will be a key team player to the service of the Distress Centre; a well trained, dedicated volunteer meeting a need in our community. Volunteer Professional Gains - Front line experience provides you with transferable skills which will benefit you in your future career - Development of key communication and listening skills - You will gain valuable and extensive knowledge of the mental health and addiction services offered in the Niagara Region - A letter of reference can be provided after 1 year commitment is completed - Continuous ongoing education (ASIST training, SafeTALK, Mental Health First Aid, Information Sessions etc) Interested in getting involved?
